The Panorama Photo Process

How we got here!

We are proud to say that we take great photographs. Impossible shots as of a few years ago. The earliest aerial photography was dating back as far as WWII. They certainly were not as sophisticated as they are today and certainly not as full. But how far back does the Panoramic photo go? What about the panorama photo process and how does that work?

The process used to be much simpler. They used basic timing and a rotating cart; panoramic photos covered a maximum angle of 150 degrees. But this wasn’t a feat of engineering as much as it was just great timing and fixed locations. The technology was also limited to the 150 degrees from way back then mainly because they had no way of printing images much larger than that, and there would start to be the risk of blending pictures.

Now the process is exploding with the concept of digital stitching. Programs in your phone are easily capable of blending like pixels to create fluidic imagery. So when you take multiple photos in a row and back to back, the program will be able to find the like images and connect them automatically. The process has exploded in the last few years thanks to the iPhone.

But now it’s come full circle. With the usage of drones and aerial cameras, we can take digital stitching and panoramic photography to new heights. The drone is operated by one of our technicians while the camera either records stabilized videos, takes hundreds of photographs, or is remotely operated by either the same operator or a different operator.

With the aid of the stabilization of the drone and the high-quality pictures that cameras can take, we can turn several photographs into a single, level, high-quality photo of a full circle. When you see a 360 panoramic photo, it’s mind boggling and amazing just like the process.
