What is the Drone Racing League?
The Drone Racing league is a professional organization that revolves around drone racing. They are designing a standardized league for drone racing in order to make it accessible while simultaneously making it competitive. The DRL has multiple large scale investors currently with four stadiums. One in Manhattan, Ohio, LA, and Miami. The final, of course, being the Miami Lights in our very own backyard.
What is the Miami Lights?
The Miami Lights is the first level in the DRL main set of maps. It takes place in the Dolphins stadium and has a prominent video series on YouTube to help bring people into the sport. The players get together in a set of multiple heats until a victor is found.
Using light cues and custom level designs, the racers will need to move in three dimensions in order to edge out the opponents and find their way to victory. Atop this, there are live streaming headsets on each of the players heads so that they see what the drone sees; this adds another level of difficulty to the pilots.

How to Become a Drone Racer?
Having a drone is the easiest way to become a professional drone racer. However, there is a DRL game called ‘Tryouts.’ There are accurate, scaled maps of each of the stadiums through a simulator as well as a global leaderboard and on January 21st they had their first tryouts in webster Hall. They were filtering out the best of their leaderboards for a contract with the league.
